The UNESCO Chair on Human Development and Culture of Peace at the University of Florence maintains active collaborative and exchange relationships with the Andragoški center Slovenije (Slovenian Institute of Adult Education, SIAE) in the fields of education for sustainability, global citizenship, and the commons.
Among the initiatives promoted by SIAE, particular attention should be drawn to the international conference “Discovering the Power of Nature: Participatory Environmental Education for Sustainability – Opportunities, Challenges, and Practices”, held on 27-28 November 2025 as part of the project “Strengthening Lifelong Learning” (2023-2029). The conference brought together researchers, educators, and practitioners from several European countries to explore participatory and ecocentric approaches to environmental education. The conference proceedings have been published in a bilingual book of abstracts, available online, and recordings of the presentations have recently been made freely accessible.

A thematic special issue devoted to the conference topics will shortly be published online in open access in the journal Studies in Adult Education and Learning (https://journals.uni-lj.si/AndragoskaSpoznanja/index). The issue will include a contribution by the Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair and her collaborators.
The partnership between SIAE and the UNESCO Chair Human Development and Culture of Peace is fully aligned with the Chair’s 2025-2029 Programme, which identifies the renewal of adult education from a lifelong and lifewide learning perspective as one of its strategic priorities. This objective is to be pursued through cooperation with universities, academic networks and international organisations. The ongoing dialogue with the Andragoški center Slovenije constitutes a significant component of this strategy, and the UNESCO Chair intends to further strengthen and expand this collaboration in the years ahead.
